In this section of my website you can take a look at all the species of birds I have been lucky enough to get on camera.
I often use the Merlin app to recognize the birds in my surroundings, and then try to get a glimpse of them on my camera. It really isn’t as easy as I thought. Those little birds are very quick on their feet.
Afterwards I review my photos and try to identify the species (which also, is not as easy as I thought).
If you have any corrections on my identifications, be sure to let me know 🙂
Brambling (Bergfink)
Fringilla montifringilla

Song thrush (Singdrossel)
Turdus philomelos

Eurasian jay (Eichelhäher)
Garrulus glandarius

White wagtail (Bachstelze)
Motacilla alba
On the second picture, I think the bird was looking straight at me.

Goldcrest (Wintergoldhähnchen)
Regulus regulus

Eurasian chaffinch (Buchfink)
Fringilla coelebs

Common linnet (Bluthänfling)
Linaria cannabina
Either shifting around in the high grass or up in the sky. At least in my experience.

Eurasian collared dove (Türkentaube)
Streptopelia decaocto

European goldfinch (Stieglitz)
Carduelis carduelis
I had heard this bird very often, but never got to see it. When I went to the right place, there was a whole swarm of them.

Black redstart (Hausrotschwanz)
Phoenicurus ochruros
As far as I could tell, the first picture is of a female, the rest are of a male.

Marsh tit (Sumpfmeise)
Poecile palustris

Common firecrest (Sommergoldhähnchen)
Regulus ignicapilla

Great Spotted Woodpecker (Buntspecht)
Dendrocopos major
I was not able to get a really good look at it with the camera, but I’m still very happy to have witnessed this bird pecking wood.

Eurasian wren (Zaunkönig)
Troglodytes troglodytes

European green woodpecker (Grünspecht)
Picus viridis
Has a very distinct screech.

Common chiffchaff (Zilpzalp)
Phylloscopus collybita
Very quick bird. Took me some time to get it, even though it’s about everywhere I go.

European Robin (Rotkehlchen)
Erithacus rubecula
flying around in my backyard

Great egret (Silberreiher)
Ardea alba

Common kingfisher (Eisvogel)
Alcedo atthis
At first there was just this bright blue flash in the corner of my eye. Then I caught a glimpse of this majestic bird.

European tree sparrow (Feldsperling)
Passer montanus
Also very common in my backyard.

Got a better glimpse a couple days later.

Eurasian nuthatch (Kleiber)
Sitta europaea
Getting this quick little guy on camera was a blessing.

Long-tailed tit (Schwanzmeise)
Aegithalos caudatus
I had pretty bad natural lighting that day (adding to my inexperience as a photographer). But you can see the long tail, which makes up almost 60% of its length.

Here’s a another look at it with much better lighting. Their song sounds a lot like they’re laughing.

Common starling (Star)
Sturnus vulgaris

Great tit (Kohlmeise)
Parus major

Yellowhammer (Goldammer)
Emberiza citrinella
It took me some time to figure out what kind of birds those are. The 2 on the lower branches are yellowhammers, the one up high is a starling.

Eurasian blue tit (Blaumeise)
Cyanistes caeruleus

Greylag goose (Graugans)
anser anser

Eurasian kestrel (Turmfalke)
Falco tinnunculus
